Wolf Badge and Pinewood Derby Glory

Parker received his Wolf Badge and five arrow points this week. We were both very proud. I would love a picture of this but had to settle for a video of it since I left the camera on video mode not camera mode.

I mentioned recently how Greg had worked hard with Lowden and Parker on their Pinewood Derby cards. Well, their hard work paid off this week. Lowden won first place overall and Parker won second place. (Parker said on the way home that Lowden would no longer be a cub scout next year so he wouldn't have to race against him next year. Parker had won the derby the year before, so don't feel too bad for him.)

Here is some exclusive footage of Lowden's winning race. His car is the black one with the red flames with "C-YA" on the back fender. You can see it was a very close race...

And here is exclusive footage of Parker's valiant second place finish. It was a photo finish but the judges confirmed his car won. His car is the green one with "PK Express" written on the sides of it, aluminum foil windows, and "PK-1" on the back fender.

The boys received trophies and didn't look happy about it at all....

Greg was beaming afterwards. Nothing makes a dad quite as happy as a Pinewood Derby win.

Impressive derby wins.

I'm so over scouts and we haven't even begun yet. Grrr.

I have a long time until I do any scouting, but I remember how intensely my dad and brothers worked on their cars. My dad was always beaming when they won too. Congratulations to both your boys!

Oh the many years I will be doing this, is it sad that I don't even want to start?

I am really proud of Lowden and Parker! The only question I have left is how did Greg's Pine Wood Derby Car do? I KNOW he made one too.

Great wins! That's awesome! Looks like you've had some busy weeks lately with all the birthday fun and extra curricular activities. Thanks for the well wishes. I'm feeling better every day, but still am pretty tired. Thanks again.

Only a group of LDS guys can get so worked up over derby cars! It's so cute to watch them spend all this time (are these the same guys overwhelmed by work, callings and family--whose wives are overwhelmed by work, callings and family??!) on a little block of wood. Funny stuff. License plates, windows, flames up the sides! Oy vey!

The Elder's Quorum here decided it was too limited in age groups for their liking...they created a Pinewood Derby for the dads. You could race indoors (standard race, no tricks), or outdoors (rockets, batteries, etc.). There was never (in this ward's history) a more well attended EQ event! And the men walked out of there like each one had just taken a new bride! Beaming smiles, happy faces, sweaty brows, pats on the back and big "high 5's" by all!

Many happy years ahead racing your derby cars. It's uniquely scouting, and really...despite the grumbles from most of us...it's good-old-fashioned fun.

Congrats to each of your boys and best wishes as they race in the future!
